Tropical Cyclone Vardah approaching India

As of Sunday midday, EST, Tropical Cyclone Vardah was located approximately 740 miles south-southwest of Calcutta, India. Vardah was moving west at 6 mph. Maximum-sustained winds are 85 mph with gusts near 105 mph.
Vardah will continue to move westward and maintain its current strength before beginning to weaken in the next 24 hours due to an increase in wind shear and interaction with land.
Vardah is forecast to make landfall near Chennai, India, by Monday afternoon, local time, bringing flooding rainfall and damaging winds near the point of landfall. Rainfall amounts will average 3-6 inches in southern Andhra Pradesh and northern Tamil Nadu. An area of heavier rain could total up to 8 inches from Chennai to Nellore. Wind gusts of 50-70 mph near the point of landfall will lead to power outages and minor structural damage.
